Already, over the course of the New Year, I have lost or mislaid three pair of reading glasses. While all of them are the cheap sort from the revolving rack at the drug store, it ne'ertheless augurs ill.

Decades ago when I smoked, I had the same problem with lighters - I'd lose so many that I couldn't help but start encountering one, and then another…
