Why is it that any American news story that mentions fireworks in a negative light always, without exception, refers to them as 'firecrackers'? I'm reading a story from New York today about a boy getting a 'firecracker' thrown at him, which promptly set his clothes ablaze and gave him third degree burns over much of his body. Now I suppose it's possible that he just happened to be soaked in gasoline to begin with, and someone tossed a Black Cat at him, but it doesn't seem too likely, does it?
This follows on the heels of a story about some doofus who emasculated himself when he sat down on a lighted 'firecracker' trying to imitate a scene from 'Jackass' where people were shooting 'firecrackers' from their butts. I've seen the movie in question, and those're rockets they're using. Maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt here - maybe the frat boy was actually so drunk that he did stick a big cracker up his butt, thinking it was a rocket like they have in 'Jackass'. Somehow I just doubt it, though.
