They all went to wreckin'...
Jan. 24th, 2004 02:32 amLiving in the midwest does have certain compensations. It's been snowing most of the night, faster than the road crews could clear it away. When I came home from work, I was going between 45 and 55mph, and had everything I could do to keep the car on the road. I was passing much more than I was being passed. I kept seeing cars, abandoned and otherwise, sitting skewed in the ditch every few miles.
Drives like this are fun, if stressy. For once, I've got a car so dangerously over powered that I can break the wheels loose at any speed if I'm not careful with the gas. I can drive right at the limits of the car's traction, which is a rare event in a Metro. It's front wheel drive too, which can be a bit counterintuitive in a skid. I scared myself good several times. An enjoyable experience, and maybe a useful one as well. My memory of how that car feels just before the back end breaks away is refreshed. My confidence that I can gather it back in again is refreshed too.
