Mar. 28th, 2005 11:02 pmSo, Michael Jackson has turned black again... In other revelations, his body is unusually fragile, and the entire case against him is a conspiracy to gain control of his property.

As regards the Six Degrees of Separation, I know someone who knows someone who knew the Libertarian/Nazi/Green kid who shot up that school. You can read his uber-angsty LJ at http://www.livejournal.com/users/weise/ Not much there, I'm afraid. I'm frightened at how many people have listed him as 'friend'. We'll hope it's just for ease of showing the page to their friends, or so they won't lose the link. I know better, though.
One of the things that interests me about this is that initial reports described him as a member of the "Libertarian National Socialist Greens" party. The 'Libertarian' and 'Green' affiliations seems to have been entirely dropped from news reports, with the 'Nazi' part being played up. I'm wondering at the reasons for that. Obviously, 'Nazi' is a big attention-getter. You're always gonna sell more papers if you can incorporate a phrase like "Nazi Massacre" into the headlines.
I'm wondering though if the libertarian and green parts got dropped from the feeling that this was a group of plain garden-variety Nazis with a fancy name; from the feeling that the story would sell better if they didn't 'complicate' it; or from a desire not to tarnish the reputations of those political beliefs by mentioning them in this context. I'm guessing it's probably the first, but none of these, I think, are honourable motives for reporters. A reporter should present the facts, and not shade the story.
So far as the idea of the party itself, I don't have any trouble imagining a Nazi/Green alliance. The Nazis were always very outdoorsey types, and the Greens are nothing if not authoritarian/socialist in their outlook. How on earth do they manage to shoehorn 'Libertarian' in there, though? That's pretty much the antithesis of Nazi.

I'm having some conceptual difficulties as well with the idea that an Indian kid wanted to be a Nazi. I've always kind of wondered what would have happened afterward if the Japs and Nazis had won WWII. I can't see that alliance enduring very long.

Another earthquake in Indonesia. A man with a truckload of clean underwear to sell could have made a fortune in Sri Lanka today, I'll bet...
