News Quote of the Day, from das Beeb: "In 2004, a Dutch court ruled that Wilkinson Sword and Gillette could both claim their razors were the best, as members of the public would probably not believe them anyway."

The other day while I was watching curling on the Olympics, the American team accidentally knocked their own rock out of scoring position. The announcer referred to the shot as a "Dick Cheney". :)

A week of disappointments on the movie front. "The World's Fastest Indian" turns out not to be about prominent 40s/50s race driver and indian Joey Chitwood (IMO a reasonable assumption based on the stylized vintage racecar in the newspaper ad) but instead about a fellow with an Indian motorcycle. Apparently the racecar graphic was one of Indian's logos, which would be known to motorcycle afficianodos.

Equally, "Freedomland", which was advertised as an old school inner-city detective movie, turns out to be a movie with an "important message". That's rather less forgiveable. I made my own erroneous assumption about "World's Fastest Indian", but "Freedomland" is just misleadingly marketed.

A gamma ray burst halfway across the galaxy that still disturbed the earth's atmosphere.

"The flare on SGR 1806-20 unleashed about 10,000 trillion trillion trillion watts of power."
