Jan. 4th, 2007 04:29 amBizarrely, it seems that "Gordon Bennett!" is used as a rude expression in Britain. I'm familiar with the name from the Bennett Cup motor races that used to be held on the east coast in the first part of the last century.

An aquaintance accidentally destroyed her "Hello Kitty" party tray, and was unable to find a replacement. While helping her look online, I came across http://www.dreamkitty.com. They've got 70 pages of Hello Kitty merchandise. Some of it's stuff you'd expect, like plush, stickers, and school supplies. Some of it's stuff you'd never expect...
Among other things, you can get a rice cooker, steam iron, crock pot, toaster, cookware, "anti-slippery mat", Christmas tree and ornaments, multi-media speakers w/ built-in flashlight, glue, burnable CDs and DVDs, correction tape, toilet brush, "healthy towel", bandages, and a burglar alarm, all with Hello Kitty on them.
As much as I love flashlights, I'm not sure it would have ever occurred to me to build one into a speaker set. I don't even know what the "anti-slippery mat" and "healthy towel" are for. The mat is small and heart-shaped, with raised edges. The towel is long and narrow, and makes me vaguely nervous. I have trouble getting my mind around the concept of a Hello Kitty burglar alarm.
In a way, I'm sorry that I'm not into Hello Kitty. You could fill your entire house with this stuff. I'm sure someone, somewhere, has. I can imagine this pink house, with Hello Kitty everywhere, with every object that one uses throughout the day bearing her visage. It just fascinates me that you can, for instance, cook your rice in a Hello Kitty rice cooker, scoop it out with a Hello Kitty rice spatula, and serve it in Hello Kitty rice bowls with Hello Kitty chopsticks and chopstick rests. You can literally build your entire life around Hello Kitty merchandise, and apparently lack for very little. It's kind of frightening and kind of reassuring at the same time.
