Cat Potatoes
Jun. 5th, 2007 11:55 amSo, for whatever ever reason, broken ol' LJ would let me reply but not post these past few days. We'll see how today goes...

Bill France has died. I'd rather suspected that he might live forever through sheer stubborness.

I started painting my mother's house this past weekend. I rather enjoy the painting process, but I suspect I'll be sick of it by the time that I finish. I got maybe a sixth of the way through on the first weekend, starting in the pickiest, most complex area around the main entrance. Next weekend, weather permitting, I'll do the shrubbery-encumbered front wall, and then after that it's all straightforward painting on plain, albeit large, walls.
We've chosen pastel yellow, picked out with blue and green. It's going to look unusual. It's an odd house anyway, that doesn't really fall into any conventional category, a sort of bungalow/ranch hybrid from right after the War. I'm quite sure it was home-built - the framing seems to have once been part of a barn, big heavy oak frame spaced way more closely than any modern builder would do. In the event of a tornado, it'll be one of the last things standing.
One of the things I miss out on by living in an apartment is getting to paint, build, etc. Assuming that I have the painting done by Stoat Fair time (my target) I'm going to build something out of brick before winter, I think. I've got this nice pile of old chimney bricks that would make a neat firepit for cold weather.
I ought to wire the place up for high speed copper while I'm at it.

There's some sort of new tentlike structure at the 17th street entrance to the Stoat Fairgrounds. It's huge, and has been there a month at least. I need to go see what it is.

Mom's brakeline blew out yesterday when she had to brake hard to miss a dog. Fortunately, it was at low speed. A disconcerting experience, all the same. I should have mine checked, as my car's about the same age.

I found a Casio keyboard in the trash at the apartments where I live. We've got this huge sort of compactor thing where you throw your trash, but off to one side there's a concrete pad where people tend to set out things they don't want anymore, but are still useful. There's generally furniture, bicycles, appliances, etc out there, free for the taking for a day or so until the maintenance guys toss 'em in the smasher. Saturday morning there was a Casio CTK-120 :)
It's pretty cool, especially for free. It's got 100 tones (some of which seem completely pointless) and also produces 100 rhythms. It's a low-end keyboard, but has a nice feel and action. It's easy to play, and feels very piano-like.

Mom's birthday is coming up next week. I haven't a clue what I'm going to get her.
I'm fortunate to get along with my mother. So many of my friends don't.

I'm starting to realize that I have a thing for fat, blue & white Dragons, such as Lugia or Shiron.
