So, I was sitting here at work, bored, and decided to watch Youtube. I wanted to see Kangaroos. Most of the initial list was variations on "Kangaroo boxing", which didn't interest me. I found and watched several good ones, including "Making Friends with a Kangaroo", and "Kangaroo and Baby". What was interesting to me was that as I watched, the menu kept adjusting itself, as always, but it was throwing up stuff like "Kangaroo Masturbating" and "Rhino Sex!". I have to assume these are based on things that past viewers of these two Kangaroo videos have watched, since I wasn't logged in, and I'd only watched two videos anyway.

Lots of old racing footage on Youtube, which for some reason had never occurred to me. Most of it is crashes, though :/ I did find one really neat 8mm home movie from the 1961 Five Hundred, which fascinates me. It's shot from one of the old mainstretch north grandstands, with the high wooden roof - prolly either H or C. It interests me because this is what it looked like to someone attending that day, not to the newsreel cameras. The old retaining wall is only knee-high, and you can see everything. The mainstretch is terribly open-looking, not the 'canyon of people' effect that you have today. Purdue's marching band had clusters of helium balloons tied to them, which bobbed violently as they played, making them look like they were being attacked by some sort of science-fictional creatures. Some things look a lot better in the conceptual drawings.

I did watch some of the crash footage. I remember a lot of that when it happened. Something I either didn't notice at the time, or else it just seemed normal to me, is that when Jim Malloy crashed, the ambulance that came out on the track was from Conkle Mortuary. It was actually not that uncommon in the early 70s for funeral homes (in Indiana, at least) to operate ambulances as a sideline. I have no idea why. It seems macabre in retrospect.

There's a movie of some guys wrecking stuff with thermite too. They've got a big fibre drum filled with it. Apparently you can buy it in bulk. Imagine working in a warehouse full of thermite.

I need to watch Youtube more often. I say that about TV too, but I never do it.

W is afraid of Horses, which I think is sad. I've known people before who were afraid of them. Horses look quite impressive from a distance, but when you're right up with them, they seem so vulnerable.
