On the OhioFur list, we're once again cycling through the recurring drama that arises everytime someone tells the truth to the press.

As a general rule, if there's something you wouldn't like your family to find out that you're doing, the best course is to avoid doing that thing, not to insist that others have a moral obligation to help you keep your secret.

They're having a shitty time in Mexico of late. Now 16 people got buried in a landslide. The pictures are impressive. You'd never guess that there'd been a town there. There's not even much debris showing.

Overheard at work: "If he were an indian, his name would be "Dog Peeing"."

Whatever one's feelings about Musharaff's actions, it's hard not to smirk at pictures of the police chasing lawyers around the public square, drubbing them with sticks :)

A former acquaintance of mine who frequently travelled to India and Pakistan on business insisted that "Pervez" was actually pronounced "Pervy".

The curiously-named [livejournal.com profile] pettacunobrixta points out the BBC's survey of strange laws. My favourite: "It is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls of York, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow." It's a shame I don't live in York, and know some Scotsman whom I dislike intensely. I can't believe nobody takes advantage of a law like that.

There's something as well to be said for "It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament." One has to wonder what the penalty might be.

Once, many years ago, the Indiana Legislature set the legal value of Pi in Indiana to 3.00. I used 3.00 once on a high school math assignment, but my argument that I was legally obligated to use that value availed me not.
