Alarming Polyhedra

Cats are Democrats - Dogs are Republicans. As true today as ever. I'd buy the poster, except that the cartoonist has an editorial cartoon about the evils of consumerism, and how owning a tee shirt with a pithy message is a substitute for true self-espression; but then also wants to sell you posters of his cartoons.

I'll be voting for Hillary on March 4th, I think. If she wins the nomination, well and good - for the first time ever, I'll be picking between two candidates that I like. If she deadlocks with Obama, and there's a brokered convention, well and good - I've done my part to help create a political trainwreck that will go down in history. It's a win/win proposition.

McCain had a rally here tonight, but I didn't find out until too late.

And now Fidel has shuffled off the stage. It seems anticlimactic, somehow. He's been gone for months, in most ways that matter.
He was the last of the major Cold War leaders left. When I was little, he was part of the unholy triumvirate of the enemy, a henchman to Mao and Brezhnev. I always had a sort of sneaking affection for Castro. He was a communist, and misguided, but I think he did try to do what he thought was best for his country.
I have to wonder how long Raul can hang on. I'm guessing not very long. I hope the place doesn't explode.

The CIA's deranged efforts to assassinate Castro, including such gems as exploding seashells and poisoned cigars.
I would never have thought of exploding seashells :)
I need to work more on my fanfic about the Rescue Rangers being sent to assassinate Castro.

Someone stole a railway bridge. That's ambitious.
Some years back, when I worked in Akron, someone stole a huge industrial air conditioner from a factory down the street. They pulled up bright and early one Saturday morning with a big truck and a rental crane, and three guys in coveralls and hard hats, looking perfectly normal. Everybody saw them doing it, and nobody, including the police, paid a bit of attention to them. It wasn't until Monday morning that anyone realized that something was wrong. So far as I know, they never caught them.
I like the fact that there are such criminals in the world. The overwhelming majority seem to drift into crime from sheer laziness or lack of imagination, but every so often you get someone who decides he's going to steal a bridge. There's a melodramatic aspect to it, like Dr. Moriarty come to life.
