Like a Sunday in Salem

I had to have the exhaust system replaced on my car Friday. Now it gives off an alarming 'on fire' smell as I drive, as the coatings and lubricants from the manufacturing process burn away. That generally lasts a day or two.
When the original exhaust wore out, I got the aftermarket Meineke stuff put on (since GM wanted a cruelly exorbitant amount for a factory replacement). This turned out to be a good decision, since Meineke warrants their mufflers for as long as you own the car. The first one is pricey (although still cheaper than GM), but then after that replacements are free. They apparently make their money on the idea that most Americans want a new car every three years or so. If, like me, you hang onto one car, that first Meineke muffler becomes well worth the price.

Among the simple joys of bachelorhood is that of sitting on the floor to eat dinner, so that the cat can share your plate.
