Lin Dan, the Chinese badminton champion, threw his raquet and even his shoes into the stands after he won :) Someone's going home from the Olympics with a used shoe for a souvenir, which is a bit weird.

Gymnastics would be much crueller if they had a guy with a bass drum standing off to one side, and every time someone falls flat on their butt, *BOOM!*.

It's hard to watch the rowing contests without thinking of gladiator movies.

They were interviewing Dara Torres after she lost her swimming race by 0.01 seconds. She remarked that she probably shouldn't have filed her nails the night before.
One has to feel sorry for that Cavic fellow, who also lost by 0.01. It really looked to me on the replay like he touched before Phelps. They were speculating that perhaps he didn't hit hard enough at first to set off the sensor.
