Total revenue from US music sales and licensing fell almost 60 percent in the last decade, from $14.6 billion to $6.3 billion. Do you think that maybe abusing your paying customers by selling them over-priced, DRM-infected crippleware perhaps isn't the best business model after all? Not to worry, though - according to the press release linked from the article, the music industry plans to recover by going from a sales model to an 'access' model, where you pay each time you listen to music on their proprietary player. A musical implementation of DIVX - just what the public have been clamouring for!

On general principle, I'm opposed to theft of intellectual property, but honest to God... There comes a point where I start to wonder if people this stupid really deserve property rights. Are music executives really functioning on a human level, or are they just some sort of demi-human who've learned to wear clothes and not poop on the carpet, sort of like a greedy J. Fred Muggs?

So, the US military is finally moving towards allowing gay people to serve. It's far too late for me, but I applaud the change. Better late than never.

"Fantastic Mr Fox" is being released here on DVD on March 23rd. I'll break with my usual practice, and actually pre-order that, since I'm most assuredly going to buy one as soon as it's out. If you've not seen it yet, it's still in some of the second-run theatres. This is the best movie I've seen in years.
