Rat Shrubbery
Mar. 16th, 2010 03:14 amSo, for much of my life, I've laboured under the belief that 'Boca Raton' meant "Rat Bush". 'Raton' seemed fairly obvious, and 'boca' seemed to be related to 'bocage' or 'bosky'. Nor did I have any real trouble imagining that rats might favour some particular type of bush to live in or under. Now I've learnt that it actually means "Mouse Mouth". What it loses in coolness, it makes up for in surrealism.
