japanese Catastrophe
Mar. 15th, 2011 02:01 amThe catastrophe in Japan continues to amaze me. You think you have some idea what happened, but then you see more, and once again it's worse than you could have imagined. The pictures from Sendai and Minamisanriku are shocking. The whole place has that 'swept' look that Hiroshima and Nagasaki had, where in the worst areas there're only concrete shells standing on clean ground, then further away, all of the debris is piled up where the wave lost energy.

Ukabor, an artist that I follow on FurAffinity, lives in Miyagi Prefecture. He managed a brief post to say that he and his mate are safe, although his parents and brother can't be found. What's really heartrending is that he posted with his default icon, a laughing dinosaur.

This is probably the best footage I've seen yet. I've seen bits and pieces of this on the news, but here's the entire thing, without commentary. It just keeps getting deeper, and faster, and more violent as it goes, for long, long minutes. It's frightening to contemplate.
