Woot! A most satisfying day for politics!
Money to enforce the ban on incandescent bulbs has been denied for ten menths, at least. By the time congress takes the issue up again, it will be on the eve of the general election, and I can't see them being brave enough to reinstate that then. There's a good chance now, I think, that we may be able to overturn that stupid and evil law entirely. I've been dinging away by mail and phone at my Congressman, both my Senators and the Speaker since spring on this issue, and it's good to see progress. Thank you letters are in order.
Ohio's primary has been reinstated to Super Tuesday from its provisional date in June. That's what always rankled me about Indiana was June primaries. You were basically expected to just rubberstamp the candidate that had already been approved. On Super Tuesday, you're helping to make the decision.
Also, it's beginning to look as though the President will have to make a fairly humiliating climbdown on his veto threats about the XL Pipeline. I point and laugh! Now he not only has to make the politically fraught decision that he was trying to put off until after the election, but his threats stand revealed as toothless. It's pretty obvious that the democrats in the Senate aren't that inclined to protect his interests either.
