arcturax and his cats. A relaxing weekend, and much needed social time. I'll post more about that (with pictures) soon.

Arcturax asked about Samuel, my liquor store dude from the French Congo who I was afraid had been blown up back in March. He's alright, as it developed, but that made me reflect that I've not loaned money to a third world liquor store for some time. My new one's in Liberia, since they had none in either of the Congos. Liberia's an ex-colony of ours as well, so pleasing to help on that basis. Also, I used to know someone who once met Samuel Doe, so it's an interesting place in that regard as well.

He mentioned as well this charity that sends Christmas presents to people in the third world. It's largely useful stuff, but some nice things as well, since it's Christmas. I'll be looking into that this year, I think. I need to do more charitable stuff.

I prolly ought to redo my 'Congo' tag as 'Africa', since it's tending that way.

Stalking Cat is dead. I didn't really know him that well, outside of cons, and the occasional email. Still, he seemed a nice fellow. It always bemused me how many people, ostensibly furry, simply didn't grasp what he was doing, and why. He often got better treatment from the tabloid press, I think.

There's been an outbreak of flare-gun crimes!
SALINAS, Calif. - A man walked into the Valero Gas Station on North Main and Laurel in Salinas, grabbed a Monster energy drink, then pointed a flare gun at the clerk, demanding cigarettes...
Canadian Mounties have arrested a woman who allegedly used a flare gun in an attempt to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Canadian Tire store in Courtenay, British Columbia....
A Rhode Island man is accused of trying to settle an argument about noise by shooting his neighbor with a flare gun, setting his jacket on fire...
