So, if you're at all into racing, you'll already have seen the appalling F3 crash at Monza. I'll give the FIA this - Monza was originally designed to kill drivers who made a mistake at speed (Italian Futurists*, don'cha know...) and say what you will about the FIA, they do seem to be returning the track to that founding philosophy in their redesign.

I have wondered before, and I wonder again tonight, if there's just something about Grand Prix racing that causes the organizers to make bad decisions? Bottas came thundering past at least two track marshals waving yellows, but he 'slowed' (which we can tell by his having third fastest time) so that's okay, but the people who took a slow outlap, which is a practice that the rules reward, are under investigation because the FIA, who wrote that rule, doesn't want drivers to game it.
*The same people who did stuff like splashing eau de cologne on their food, because that helped them transcend animal limitations like wanting one's food to be palatable. It's tempting to think of their philosophy as an extended troll, but these were people who honestly, sincerely, wanted to become machines.
