Olympics

The Tokyo Olympic Committee is now saying they'll run without spectators if they have to. I'd still like them to put it off until 2022, and get the summer and winter games back on the same schedule. Not as much money in that, though.

Of course, that would delay Los Angeles until 2030, and I'm by no means sure that I'll live even until 2028. I'd very much like to go see an Olympics. Given, however, that the Los Angeles organization claims to have been "inspired" by the unmitigated disaster that was Rio 2016, I'm not too confident that it will be worth living that long anyway.

Information in Bird Calls

This is interesting. A study from last summer about the information included in birds' alert calls. I like that they have a "bailout" call. That would pretty much have to be hardwired rather than learned. I'm doubtful about the ethics of making the young fledge early, although it's entertaining to imagine playing that call, and getting showered with young birds.

This kind of reinforces what I was saying a few days back, about the local crows having one call for me (or at least for known-harmless humans, as a class) and another one for strangers.
