So, I have eaten turkey, and I have watched football (da Bears v. Detroit - as others before me have observed, a matchup between two bad teams can be fun to watch).

This time, at least, everyone seems to be taking it seriously, and shutting off southern Africa's access to the world early, and hard. And we have an incredibly robust and flexible new way to make tailor-made vaccines, so the time that we gain from locking down Africa may well be enough to get a custom vaccine ready. Lipolization and mRNA vaccines have changed the world, and in a remarkably short time as well. So much better than two years ago!

TBH I'd really like to see all of Africa isolated. South Africa is able to do genetic sequencing to see what they have. Most, perhaps all other African nations, apart from Egypt, cannot. We're gambling blind, here, and I can see no diplomatic or economic justification for such a risk.

It's kind of interesting how the public model of a virus has changed from the (way cool-looking) 'polyhedron on a stalk' of the bacteriophage viruses, to the spiky sea-mine shape of a coronavirus.

I ended up having to go to the grocery store through poor planning today. I'm mildly disgusted with myself. I dislike shopping on Black Friday on principle: Thanksgiving was put on Thursday so people could have a relaxed two, or even a four-day holiday. The current fashion of cheating retail workers out of their holidays from sheer sinful greed does seem to be dying out, at least a little. I'm no longer seeing the Christmas sales start at 6pm on Thursday, so that's progress. A long way to go, though.
