Twice in one day...

Mozilla have managed to blow up Firefox bigly. I really wish I'd looked online before deciding I'd wrecked it screwing around, and wiping and reinstalling everything.

If you're getting the message that all of your add-ons are disabled, and when you try to reload new copies you get a "connection failed" message, that's on the mozilla end. The add-on is actually downloading fine - there's some line in the manifest file now that's causing failures. Presumably they're aware of this, and trying to fix it.

I went from Firefox 41 to Firefox 66 a week or so ago. I'm not convinced that it's an improvement. Turning off javascript reloads the page and breaks all the scripts, not just the one's that are slower to load. Strangely, YouTube video embeds using old (flash) code now work instead of just acting like a pretty link to YouTube. On the bright side, IndieGoGo works with FF66, so I was able to order a collection of MLP fanfic short-stories.

Apart from the poll in the sidebar on the Equestria Daily page no longer working for me, FF66 (.0.3) seems to be working. The only other annoyance are the frequent 'update available' announcements and the time FF66 disabled Ad Blocker Plus without so much as a by your leave. Celestia ward me from software that wants to run my life for me.

They even broke my legacy version 45. Working hard for backward incompatibility!

arrrgh... it's so awful when *any* company does that ;/

Zolo: yeah, this sounds like one of those occasional defective windows updates they maybe fix a few days later... Thanks for the info and the warning!

Rabs & Zolo: yikes, sorry to hear about the break :\ ... you use multiple browsers still, right? .. so all was not lost (I hope) ... plus were you able to roll the system backward to before the change to get it working again?
I still use older versions of FireFox and Chrome too, mostly since newer version have broken add-ons that worked in these older versions. My version 3 doesn't work too well... haha... but my main version on this machine is version 12 *chuckle-flutter* ... It fails with many modern sites but still works well with sites like LJ :>

Also, I think you sent me a link to a nice all-private-mode browser that I use once in a while (it has some trouble on some sites too)... are you still using that?
I've sorta settled on another (Firefox related) private browser named Brave that has worked out well for many things, and allows both private and standard modes.

Wishing ya'll luck in getting the classic ones working well again! *peeep*

It's irksome, but not disastrous. I do see that the basic unadorned browser can now stop Fox News from popping up those little video boxes if I scroll past the big video window, so that's progress!

Ah... much better to hear ^v^ ... BTW I remembered the name of the other one Rabs mentioned: the Epic Browser ! It's been good, though the Brave one seems to handle more sites in general.
