A long time ago, the documentary "Shoah" was released in theatres. For a variety of reasons, chief among them the fact that it was made without period footage, I wasn't interested at the time. As so often happens, the things that one could have had easily and cheaply when young become the things which are diffiult and costly to attain when older. For the past ten years or so, I have been trying to see this in a movie house. I'm aware that it's available on DVD and streaming video, but I want to watch it in a theatre. That's probably not rational, but that's how it is.
One of the difficulties in this is the tendency of art house theatres to leave their old webpages up forever. Searching for "Shoah screening" turns up results all the way back to 2000 or so. There's even one outfit in New York who retroactively made web pages for their pre-www showings, all the way back to 1985. A lot of the result headers don't tell you the date, so you have to inspect each page. Every six months or so, though, I get desperate and go looking. This January, literally two days too late, I went online and did a search, and found out that there was a mass world-wide showing scheduled for Jan 26-27, to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz. I could just *bite* someone.
Anyway, is there any sort of centralized resource that would list showings in advance? Does anyone know? Fandango has an "alerts" thing, but only for theatres in a zip code. You can't do out-of-town searches. Any help is appreciated.
