A pretty good time was had by all, even Cat from Hell, who was rewarded with cheese (which she loves, but is bad for her) after she got her claws trimmed. This is one of the things that gets done when I show up, as the cat is really awful about that, and mom can't hold the cat *and* clip the claws.
I got my birthday present (birthday's in January, but I've been busy with moving and all). It's a magnificently detailed 1/18 scale model of Schumacher's Ferrari. I'll be putting up a shelf on the wall to display that.
I've recently discovered as well that one of my HO slot cars that I've had for years (Senna's McLaren) is worth $50 to $60 as a collectible. That kind of thing just breaks my mind. I snagged it on clearance sale at TRU for like $5 some ten years ago.
I've just discovered that there's a slot car club w/ track opening locally, so I'll probably join that, and start with that again. They seem more focussed on the older cars, without magnets (i.e., slower and harder to keep on the track) which suits my tastes. There's a magnet division too, though, so I can race the McLaren, and the matching Williams.
I managed to injure my shoulder somehow, although I'm not sure what I did. It's better today. When I left mom's yesterday it was mildly sore, and by the time I got home I had trouble moving that arm at all. I exercised it a lot (ow! ow! ow!) and put some capsaicin cream on it, and today it's much better. One of those weird things, because I don't recall doing anything at all to it. I'm getting old.
While driving home yesterday (which took me through Indianapolis), I happened to come across a rebroadcast of the 1982 Indianapolis Five Hundred on WIBC (the Speedway Network's flagship station). That just made my day. It was warm and sunny outside (high 70s), and almost exactly race-day weather. I was thinking that just before I came across the race on the radio, so my mood was perfectly set. It's hard to believe that was 22 years ago.
The broadcast turns out to have been meant to build interest in the 'Fantasy 500' that they're broadcasting next weekend. They're picking out their 33 favourite drivers from the entire history of Indianapolis, and broadcasting a fictional race. This is a practice I used to entertain myself with as a child, so the show's of obvious interest to me. The show can be streamed from www.wibc.com for those who're interested. WIBC has yet to name the 33 they've picked for their field.
