The Winter of my Discontent
Feb. 23rd, 2006 09:20 amI'm completely disgusted with George Bush, and his effort to let the Arabs control our ports.
I've been, I think, a fairly staunch, although by no means dogmatic, supporter of the President and the war. Like most Americans, I've endured various sorts of inconvenience and deprivation in my life these past 4 years. I've borne these circumstances by and large without complaining, aware that the fate of civilization is in the balance here, and that others have given up far more than I have. It would seem now that in the President's eyes, sacrifice is something for ordinary Americans, but not for the Bush family's friends and business associates. It's okay if we have to be strip-searched at the airport, it's okay if our phones have to be tapped, it's okay if we have to produce ID on demand, but God forbid that one of Poppy Bush's fat oil-sheik friends should have to forego a business deal just because there's a war on. It adds insult to injury when he asks disingenious questions like why weren't Americans upset when the British ran the ports, and tries to pretend that he can't understand the difference.
He doesn't seem to care the least bit about security if it might inconvenience his rich friends. Open up the Mexican border? Fine and dandy! Let the Arabs have control of our ports! Why not? We can always make up the difference by tightening security more on loyal Americans.
