Oct. 4th, 2007 06:48 pmSo, it's 50 years since Sputnik. Nikita Khruschev's son is in Chicago today, taking part in a celebration at the Adler Planetarium on the lakefront museum campus. That would have been so unthinkable when I was a child. Those were such terrible days. If I'd found out earlier, I'd have taken the day off and gone to see him, just for the novelty of seeing Khruschev's son.
I always liked the Russians. They're brave and resourceful people, who can get results with limited means. I'm glad we didn't fight them.

A Study in Emerald. I've never been a great Gaiman fan, which is possibly my loss. This engaged me, though :)
