Kiva is a finance corporation which underwrites interest-free loans to third world businessmen. Basically you can be a venture capitalist by risking a very small sum of money (a sum which, to the people this is meant to help, is by no means trivial), promote capitalism, and (hopefully) political and economic stability in the third world as well. You loan in increments of $25. Ordinarily, there is an administrative fee that you pay to defer Kiva's costs (usually $2.25 per unit), but for a limited time, they're waiving that, and new underwriters can participate free.
