Vaccination!

Woohoo! Indiana's finally opened to 60 and over, after being delayed a week or so from the snow. I'm set for March 18th, for Moderna. That should see me getting my second shot April 16 or thereabout, so that I'll have high immunity in time for the summer and the opening of the Speedway. I am content.

Fantastic! Rhode Island is still at 65+ so my wife hasn’t been able to sign up yet.

I volunteered last week to work with the 75+ group at the local POD. It was gratifying to help these folks get signed in and into the queue. So many WWII vets among them, and all were very happy to be able get the jab.

Just be prepared for the possibility of flu-like symptoms with the second shot. Not uncommon for people to have a reaction as your immune system says "WTF? Something's happening here!" It's a severe allergic reaction that shouldn't last more than a day or two.

I'm very much considering it as an experimental effort. We've got a tracking app (I'm not sure if it's Indiana or everyone) that you can use to report any sequelae to your vaccination. My chief fear ATM is that they're going to fob that ineffective J&J product on me, even though I signed at a Moderna-only facility (didn't have the freezers for Pfizer, apparently).

Pfizer is petitioning FDA to reduce the freezing requirements for secondary distribution of their vaccine, so that will make it easier to distribute for more rural vaccination clinics.  I wanted Pfizer, got Moderna.  I'm okay with that as long as it was mRNA.  Apparently with me receiving antibody replacement therapy, if I receive the adenovirus-routed vaccine, since I receive so many antibodies weekly, they will attack the vaccine and destroy it! I don't think the J&J is quite approved yet, and it would take a couple of weeks to get into channel, so you probably wouldn't have to worry about receiving that one so soon.

I wanted Pfizer, got Moderna.

Pfizer was my first choice, yeah. It's very slightly more effective than Moderna, plus I liked that it has to be kept so cold (I can be very shallow). Really, though, so long as I get one of the modern mRNA vaccines, I'm happy.
