The Sheriff stands behind that. This is pretty much the boilerplate language from South Carolina's Nullification Act of 1832, in many ways an obvious choice for a model, given that it was never resolved in court.
Still, one is surprised by a display of heroism from county government. These are the guys who ordinarily worry about zoning ordinances, stop signs, and drainage, and here they are, stepping up to defend the fundamental rights of citizens from tyranny. I'm impressed.
