The Summer of my Discontent
Aug. 18th, 2021 02:55 pmSo, we're finally going to be able to get COVID booster shots, starting September 20th. I have no idea where the '8 months' delay after your second shot came from. I suspect it has more to do with the WHO's insistence that we allocate our vaccine to everyone but ourselves, than it has to do with any sort of evidence-based decision-making. Certainly the disease is running wild in America ATM, and it's obvious that people are catching it whose immunity from the two shot series has faded (let alone the poor people who got the J&J product).

Haiti is wrecked, again. We ought to send medical supplies, tents, and the like, I suppose. I'm getting otherwise tired of seeing my tax dollars wasted on the place. The rubble from the last earthquake wasn't all cleared away, even though most of the country seems to be unemployed. Two rather shocking items in the initial reports that seem to have been scrubbed from the news stream as well: First, at least half of the initial tranche of trapped survivors were discovered by looters, scavenging for scrap metal and other unguarded treasures minutes after the quake. They may have paused to help the victims - they did at least report them to authorities, which is something, one supposes. Second, the southern peninsula where the quake occurred is pretty much ruled by criminal gangs. The NGOs apparently had to engage in negotiations (and probably pay tribute) for the privelege of transporting disaster relief supplies into the area.

Locally, and on the good side, I think I may have a creative use for the two limbs that came down. We shall see how it works :)
