Now it's the new year. Huzzah.

I finally broke down and bought a cell phone. It seems an unlikely purchase for me, as I've really never enjoyed talking on the phone. On reflection, I've realized that part of why I never liked the phone is that it's in one place. It's a nuisance. You have to stop what you're doing, and go find a phone if you want to talk to anyone. Having a little phone hanging off one's belt gets around that objection.

The phone itself isn't very sexy. It's a little black Motorola 'candybar', with buttons that light up green. If I decide I like having one, I may get something cooler. I keep seeing the flip-open camera types with colour screens and the blue LED buttons.

I had a 'FurryMUCK Moment'(tm) last night. A lot of us were standing around the EC, chatting about how we'd wanted to grow up to be Horses, Deer, etc., when we were little. Some fellow wandered in, and volunteered that he'd wanted to be a Ninja Turtle. Conversation stopped. You've have thought he said it in a group of mundanes.

I bought a bottle of carbonated cherry wine labelled 'Michigan Cherry Champagne' for New Year's. I'm sure the French are appalled :)

A friend wound up getting one for me last year - I still can't say I like phones much. ^_^ Handy, and the rates aren't too bad in some cases - for the one-off payment of a small fee, calls to the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and any EU country are the same price. Pay-as-you-go, too, so I spend very little or nothing on it most months. Annoyingly, though, the carrier will only activate data service under a contract.

A friend gave us Veuve Cliquot to see in the New Year. Extremely dry - I'm much more one for Moët et Chandon "White Star", which is moderately sweeter, remaining pleasantly crisp and mildly fruity. Oh, for some good perry, though.. but, not easily found hereabouts.
