Beans o' Doom!

rain_gryphonEvil, ignorant, old lady tries to poison people with ricin. First, trying to extract naturally-occurring ricin is not the same as "making ricin". Secondly, grinding up the beans might reasonably constitute a step in an extraction process, but is not in itself "extracting ricin". I think they can get her easily on attempted murder, but a good lawyer can get her off the ricin charges.
When I was little, I had a bracelet made of castor beans. IIRC, I got that for giving money to some mission project in Africa or the Carribean. They're quite attractive little seeds, and make great beads. I'd have treasured it all the more had I but known how deadly those seeds were!

So, I bought Alexandra some Fancy Feast cat treats. They were packaged in a opaque little plasticized bag similar to what Ghirardelli Squares come in. I opened it just now, expecting it to be filled with loose cat treats. Instead, it contained a number of small, square plastic envelopes. When you open one of these, it's actual meat inside! I just gave her a little tidbit of cooked white meat chicken that's been sitting on a store shelf at room temperature for however long. Completely fit to eat, if a little bit "aged" (how cats like it). I'm impressed.

Alexandra continues to enjoy giving me tongue baths with her sandpapery little tongue. I'm told that's a sign that she views me as another (albeit much larger) cat.

You can now get round, pre-made pizza crusts at the store! I love that they're round, since that works much better with my pizza cooker (one of those rotary sort that spins the pizza under radiant heat). The "thin crust" is in fact paper-thin, rather moreso than I'd bargained for. The crust comes rolled-up in a plastic sleeve, with the crust carried on a sort of oilpaper substrate. You just unroll it, put it face-down on the pan, and peel away the paper. An excellent invention! The crust has a very nice flavour, too.
