May. 15th, 2004 06:10 amOkay, Cameroon's apparently been tossed out of the World Cup of Soccer contention because they wore one-piece jumper-style uniforms instead of the usual shorts and a shirt. That seems just flat-out strange to me. I could understand if the uniforms somehow interfered with the game, made the ball or players hard to see or the like, but apparently it's just considered a major offense to wear one-piece uniforms. Weird...
I wonder if they'd get penalized if they wore shorts and a shirt, but wore the shorts on their heads?

So, now it's Pole Day at Indianapolis. I'd meant to go, but I'm going to watch on TV again this year. Sarah Fisher hasn't lived up to my expectations. I'd been hoping to see her on the front row when she signed with Kelly Racing, but she's been underspeed all week. They're having constant issues with handling, it seems. She technically *did* post the fastest speed on Friday, but it was only a 212 on her second lap before it began to rain and they shut down for the day. Only four cars got out before the rain anyway.
On a brighter note, the two Foyt boys are posting solid practice times of almost exactly the field average. Kosuke Matsuura seems to have a realistic chance at the pole, which is a shocker for any rookie.

I was looking theough the online museum of Ouija boards. Most people have seen these at one time or another, I'm sure. Some models have 'yes' and 'no' thingies in addition to the letters, and sometimes other 'pre-made' answers as well. Some of them take it to an extreme, such as http://www.museumoftalkingboards.com/ziriya.html
My personal favourite is the top one at http://www.museumoftalkingboards.com/gal2.html It's apparently designed to give 'Witch', 'Cat', 'Jew' and 'Nazi' as common answers. You could do some entertaining fortune telling with this thing, I'm sure.

Date: 2004-05-15 11:43 pm (UTC)Not strictly speaking: they've been docked six points in their qualifying group, though that does make it pretty much impossible for them to qualify for the finals. I have to agree with you that it's a ridiculously harsh punishment, though: they had been told previously to change their strip, so were deliberately going against Fifa regulations (no, I don't know why they come down so hard on it either). Even so, a fine would probably have done.
