I was commenting the other day on how much the 'Arafat is still alive' thing resembled Monty Python's Dead Parrot routine. Today, I saw this headline:

I find it totally unbelievable that doctors somehow can't seem to find out what ailment Mr Arafat is apparently dying from. Personally, I suspect the disease is something that would be highly disgraceful for a muslim man to have contracted, like an advanced venereal disease, or maybe even AIDS, so his handlers and doctors are keeping the actual diagnosis under tight wraps. (The fact he went to Paris - noted for its AIDS care - is a major red flag to me.) I suspect collusion on the part of the media in keeping this all secret, too, because no one in the press seems to be asking pointed questions about just what exactly is going on with this man. I'm tired of hearing about it, myself. I'm looking forward to the real shows - the row over where he gets buried, and the implosion of the Palestinian 'leadership'. ;-)

The French government seems very amible towards Arafat. I'm not that surprised he went there.

I am somewhat in agreement about the whole "Guess Arafat's disease!". Someone needs to leak some info to the Paparazzi. They popped Princess Diana, so how hard can this be?

The fact that Arafat is in Percy Hospital - perhaps the preeminent AIDS clinic in Europe - is a major clue to me. Do a Google search for "percy hospital" +aids . You'll find a number of links to the Arafat hospitalization, including several links suggesting he does, in fact, have AIDS.

I'm frankly not too surprised that no one in the press is pressing the matter. No one wants to lose their head over this (and I don't mean that figuratively). ;-)
