It looks like Biloxi and Gulfport took the majority of the hammering yesterday, just as they did in 1969.

Adrian Cimarosti claims in "History of Motor Racing" that the first 24-hour race took place right here, in Columbus, in 1905. I'll have to see what can be learned of that.
Edit: And apparently it's true. http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=179231&FS=HISTORY Barney Oldfield himself drove in it. :)
