Gelsenkirchen Stadium, where the US soccer team will play their opening World Cup match, is supplied with beer by a beer pipeline from a brewery. Seriously.

On my way home from the store today, I saw the aftermath of a Driver's Education car going head-on against a large truck. I'd left my camera at home, of course - I always see this sort of thing when I have. It looked to me like someone had had to brake suddenly, which resulted in a rear-ender (they were taking someone away on a backboard from that) and the student driver must have panicked, swerved and successfully missed the first accident, but then lost control of his car. Sadly, his career ended in the intersection against the engine block of one of U-Haul's largest trucks. The learners' car looked really sad, smashed up against the truck, with all of its cheerful yellow safety signs still trying vainly to protect the students.
The speed limits are really rather high on the streets around here anyway - 45 and 50mph in most cases, which is higher than anywhere I've ever lived.

Date: 2006-02-15 08:06 am (UTC)I hope there's no "return pipe" from the stadium for recycling the beer! That's only for American beers!
