I was impressed by Massa, I must say. Whether he'll carry this over to the race I don't know, though I have a nasty feeling that the reintroduction of tyre stops is going to make those much less interesting again after last year...
Tyre stops (or rather the lack of) is what really killed Ferrari last season. I do think it is a shame that they have reintroduced them. It was really a mark of driver skill to preserve tyres for the whole race, instead of just thrashing them from the starting flag. I have actually been following the A1 Grand Prix (www.a1gp.com) of late. I like the concept. everyone has the same car/engine. You can adjustaspects of the aerodynamics and set the suspension (as well as a few bits and pieces), but the race comes down to plain driver skill. ;)
Yay! Nimble's back! On the whole, I'd rather have tyre stops. There's always a trade-off between abusing the tyres to gain time on the track, vs. what it's going to cost to replace them. I'd like it best were people allowed to carry as much fuel as they like too, though. When you have to stop for fuel anyway, the new tyres become something of a bonus rather than a strategic choice.
When I was a tiny little xolo, you could generally count on someone qualifying for the Indianapolis Five Hundred with what was for all practical purposes a rolling fuel tank equipped with indestructible tyres. Everytime you saw them on the track, someone was passing them, but they seldom made pit stops, and at the end of the day they'd hold their own on average speed. I like seeing a variety of equipment and capabilities, but I'm very much into the whole strategic racing thing too.
