Arrrr!

I'm becoming increasingly confident that we're going to war with Iran after the election. The entire tone of the discourse seems to have changed over the past few days, plus there're reports in the news that the Navy's been ordered to prepare minesweepers for action. It's been a long time coming.

I may have another whack at trying to join the Army, although I don't suppose it would do any more good than it did in 2001.

The Hungarians have discovered that their PM told lies to get elected. The horror!

A glowing sea.

It's Princess Leia! I need to go to more SF cons.

After much angst and puzzlement, I've learned that RPM's dependency checker can't see anything that was installed from source code (as opposed to *.rpm packages). Being a latecomer to linux, I'd installed almost everything via rpm, and the issue never came up before now. I should probably be embarassed that I didn't know this, but instead I feel competent for having floundered about until I figured it out. Such are the vagaries of self-image.

The Giant Weasel has the most lovely Horse and Unicorn costumes, but they're only in toddler sizes!! :( They're like pajama suits with plush heads on top. I would SO wear one of the Horse ones. I may make one if I can figure out how to do the Horse head in time.

I've planned for a while on taking a plush I like and making it huge. I buy one, unstitch it, and trace the pattern. Then I take it to a copier and enlarge it. Been toying with doing one of those Animal Alley horses and making it pony-sized.

Forgot to add: That should work for making your costume head larger.

I'd thought of that, actually. I'm not entirely convinced that there won't be scaling issues, as the tension of the fabric seems to be responsible for some of the shape of the head.

I have to say, couldn't help noticing the similarity between that picture and the chap at the top of this (http://www.hlmd.de/w3.php?nodeId=505) page (well, the hairstyle, anyway). =;)

He has a beard too. Perhaps they were simply hard up for princesses back then, and had to make do.
