Dead fat man causes fire...

Too many cloacae prove fatal...

Woman has lightning shoot out her butt...

Someone has found an unknown racing car. Perhaps Loganberry or Stu might have some idea? The owner thinks it's English. It's pretty obviously from the late 50s/early 60s, and looks like it's had the left side involved in a major crash and rather amateurishly repaired. It kind of has the overall look of one of the hobby racer Elvas, but it isn't. It's interesting that the cockpit is narrow and sits dead center too. If you look at the back, the exhaust is being brought out high. I wonder if it might have been an open wheel racer that someone decided to cover over?

Today at the Damnation Navy I found (in addition to a cool rubber eagle that squeaks and a bunch of Stephen James books) a set of 230V German fairy lights. I snapped 'em right up, of course. While I'm glad to have them, it raises some questions. The local DN routinely throws away old C6 sets when they're sorting, which cuases me anguish. Their reasoning is that they don't want to sell them to anyone, because replacement bulbs can't be had anymore, and they're primarily selling stuff to poor people, who want stuff that works, and not collector's items. It's stupid reasoning, but at least internally consistent. But what then is the rationale for selling a set with a German plug, that runs on 230V, and most assuredly can't be rebulbed in the States, or even operated without a converter?

Actually, in general with fairy lights, they don't seem to really look at them, but just lump them all in together. I once got a set of 1950s Italian hand blown screw-base fairy lights there. I don't think anyone in the world still makes bulbs for those. They're magnificent lights, individually blown from coloured glass (not just dipped in dye, but actual coloured glass) and were probably uber-expensive when they were new.

Someone got sent to prison for forging McDonald's gift certificates. People are going to ask her why she's there, and she'll either be too embarassed to say, or else she'll tell them, and they'll think she's lying.

Too many good stories! The fat's in the fire

Insteresting they stated that "he came to no harm" hmmm did they ask him or hear him shout out "I'm burning up here!" They set fire to him!

Ass shocker story hilarious

That car like a great design-very sweet. Concept? Got a bit of a mix of Jag/Ferrair and Lotus in it to me

The "came to no harm" struck me too. I mean, the guy's already dead, and then they lit him on fire. There's not a lot more harm he could really come to.

I think that was a very pretty car at one time, although it looks like it got smashed to pieces and put back together in a hurry. The back end really looks English to me, with that raised center section like Cooper or Lotus would have. I'm guessing it's probably someone's single-example homemade body sitting on top of what started as an open wheeled single seater. That was one of the neat things about the age, was if you could weld and work sheet metal, you could build a competitive car.

Elva was the first marque that came to my mind as well, actually, but I couldn't really do any better than that. The front-on view makes me think of a Lotus more than a Jaguar. The current owner is presumably American, given the US spelling of "aluminum" in the last picture.

I hadn't noticed that :)

Don't look so close, but look closer. Four legs, and it still has its wings.

Maybe I was wrong about them being descended from opossa (http://www.spindizzynews.org/newspaper89.htm). ;-)

He's a giant chicken, I tell ya! A giant chicken!

You know, I just looked at the car, and did a double-take. I don't know what it is, but I had a toy of it when I was a cub. Absolutely no doubt, that's what it was.

Are you sure? It resembles a great many cars of the age, but the details aren't right. It bears a more than passing resemblance to an Elva type 7 (http://www.grandprixclassics.com/images/Cars_Sold/19xx_Elva_Mark6%20w180.jpg) or a Lotus type 23 (http://www.utahlotusmuseum.com/id101.htm), but it's neither of those.

Now suddenly I think of the Lotus as a "Lotor", and picture it driven by maniacal Qoons.

No, the toy I had was neither of those two. The headlights and air intakes just stuck out like a long-lost friend. Still no idea what it was, but it was definitely one of these.

Maybe I still have it somewhere in a box, and maybe the Peoples' Chinese Toy Bureau put the name of what it was on the bottom, but who knows if I'll ever find it even if it isn't in a landfill somewhere.
