I'm cynically amused by all the bizarre fuss that's being made over Saddam being taunted. How unspeakable that you might say something mean to somebody when you're getting ready to kill him! Sometimes I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole.

I was looking at the pictures of the plane that crashed in Indonesia. I have to think there are probably more propitious things to paint on the tail of one's airplane than a graphic of Icarus.

And yeah people keep whining about Saddamn, you know who cares. I'd have rather they put him in the mines or something. Seriously, I'd take a noose over 30 years of breaking rocks any day.

As for mannequin guy, I think the break in must be part of the fetish or something. It's probably not enough just to have one.

Personally, I was halfway hoping to see Saddam get his head chopped off, but I tend to be bloody-minded. In any event, leaving him alive just wasn't an option. He wasn't being punished for anything he did. That's just a sort of social fiction that everyone plays along with because it makes some people feel better. Hussein was executed because of his potential to serve as a leader and rallying point for the opposition. He was just too dangerous to leave alive.
