Ozzy decides he's got enough money, and will do shows for free. Good for him. I recall once, many years ago, Mad Magazine ran a satire piece about rock stars taking their music seriously, and doing just that.

Personally, if I'd just invented a new type of parachute, my first test would not consist of jumping off the Eiffel Tower with it.

Apple decides that DRM is a money-waster. I'd congratulate Jobs on his keen grasp of the obvious, except that I can't help but notice that he's waited until the release of Vista, (which is literally encrusted with DRM) to have his epiphany. Better done for cynical reasons that not at all, though.

I scored only 4.4 on the "Authoritarian Personality" scale. I'd expected to score higher. Interestingly, the author considers a positive answer to question #26 Human nature being what it is, there will always be war and conflict to be indicative of "generalized hostility, villification of the human". I have to conclude that 1950 was a more hopeful age, when it was still possible to believe that everyone truly desired peace, freedom and prosperity.

Terribly cold here these past few days, but it should warm up to above freezing in the next week.

See? Apple/Steve Jobs isn't the money hungry idiot that other computer/music industry people are.

Oh, he very much is, I think. A year ago he was saying Apple would enforce DRM even if the music companies didn't. He sees a chance to wrongfoot Microsoft here. I think it may backfire on him in the end, since non-DRM stuff won't trigger some of the inherent problems in Vista. However, I'm sure he's devoted much time and thought to whether it will work out in Apple's favour or not. Time will tell.

Dont' forget the comet that's also in the picture.

Sometimes that's the only way to get things done.

The F-scale says I'm a "liberal airhead" because my score is only 2.6 (need 3.0 to be "normal American).

Eeep! On that last picture you missed the comet between the fireworks and the lightning!
It was the Astronomy Picture of the Day (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html) a couple days ago (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070205.html).

Yes, Porsupah pointed out the comet. I was more interested with the allusion to "On the Beach", which is why I emphasied what I did.

I remember when I went to see the Cleveland Orchestra outside at Blossom Music Center and a thunderstorm was coming in. The lightning seemed perfectly in sync with the very dramatic classical music. It was very strange!
