Whenever there's a disaster in Africa or Asia, one of the big relief items always seems to be cooking oil. There's generally a story about the Red Cross passing out cooking oil, or they interview someone who's down to his last bottle of cooking oil and worried he'll run out. It seems to be a much more essential item for them than for us.
