Just Another Day
Mar. 1st, 2007 05:50 amThey're still fighting over Anna Nicole Smith's body. Eventually they'll find themselves wrangling over a skeleton with a pair of silicone tits attached.
That'd be an interesting concept for Halloween, actually...
*****
New from Japan - "Power Puff Girls Z", in which the Power Puff Girls are teenagers. This is so going to produce a tidal wave of hentai.
*****
It's Geezers 2, Punks 0:
60 year old Texas lady takes gun away from robber and shoots him with it. Tragically, he survived.
70 year old ex-Marine breaks robber's neck. Then he went on a cruise :)

Mysterious Japanese vending machines. I love vending machines. It just pleases me to think that there's a machine waiting to sell me something, 24/7.

Date: 2007-03-01 06:41 pm (UTC)about every half block downtown. USA Today (the newspaper for people who find television too complicated) has those neat-looking pedestal types, and everyone else uses generic boxes with hinged doors on the front. You put your money in, open it up, and there's just a stack of papers inside for you to take one off the top. Depending on the company, yesterday's papers will often be in the bottom chamber if anyone still wants one.
You should suggest it to your local paper. The vending boxes are dirt cheap. With all the train and bus riding that's done over there, they'd be money-makers at the stations, I'm sure.

Date: 2007-03-02 04:04 am (UTC)That might be part of the reason: if there's an honesty system which trusts people not to take more than one for their money, then sadly I don't think it would work here. =:(
On a less depressing note, I think another reason is the rise of free newspapers in urban areas - Metro (http://www.metro.co.uk/) being the most popular. (Today's showbiz: Travolta says Scientology could have saved Anna Nicole) (http://www.metro.co.uk/fame/article.html?in_article_id=39173&in_page_id=7) This paper is given away for free on buses and at stations.

Date: 2007-03-02 05:45 am (UTC)That's really sad, given that a stack of newspapers are of no more value to an individual than a single newspaper. But yeah, it's honesty-based. You *could* take more than one, but really it'd be pointless. One's all you can use.
