So, the guy who ran all those people over is a 4channer. There's a shocker.

Sunday the 22nd was the 50th anniversary of when Robert Kennedy came to town. I was seven years old. It's hard to believe that's been half a century. The full extent of what we'd lost didn't really sink in until the autumn of '76, just after the Bicentennial and Olympic summer, when a friend and I were discussing the upcoming elections, and how *finally* the nonstop parade of disasters seemed to show signs of exhausting itself, and he remarked that Bobby Kennedy would have been finishing up his second term now.

And, bizarrely, that tiny post about "Woohoo Bury!" has a notice from Livejournal appended to it now in the comments, stating that it was among the top 25 posts. They don't say for which time period, but still... Something is badly broken, I think.

History truly pivoted on its axis that night of June 5, 1968. Life and destiny turn on the smallest of decisions sometimes. Leave the Ambassador stage left - on to the presidency. Leave stage right through the kitchen, assassination, and future history belongs to Nixon. Didn't RFK want to go left offstage, but was directed to the right? I seem to recall that was the story. How things would have been different with a foreshortened Vietnam, no Watergate, and possibly no Reagan. I've always felt like everything went wrong after Bobby was cut down. JFK's death shocked and saddened everyone, but when we lost Bobby, it seemed we all lost hope, and genuine despair for our future took hold, and hasn't let go in all that time since.
