Hey Chicago, whatta ya say?
Sep. 24th, 2007 02:18 pmMore wonderful Japanese vending machines. The perambulating Coke machine is interesting. Imagine these reaching the point of functionality where they just wandered about the city on their own, keeping a record of sales, and positioned themselves appropriately for the time of day to maximize their take. When they ran out, they could return to a supply depot, turn in their money, and get more beverages.
Imagine the Weight Watchers' building, besieged by snack machines...
Actually, I can imagine vending machines replicating old-time street vendors, wandering through the neighborhood each morning, playing music to announce their presence, and selling fresh produce and fish to the housewives.
One could anticipate interesting emergent behaviours, such as machines learning to block the door until you buy something.
Even more vending machines.

So, I'm not the only person who thought JewTube would be a cool name for a Jewish video site :)

There's a week left in the regular season, and the Cubs are ahead by three and a half games. The last time they won the Serious was 1908. The last time they were even in it was 1945.
It looked like a playoffs crowd this weekend. They were singing the old "Go Cubs Go!" song from the early 80s, which I've not heard in years. Fifteen minutes after the game was over, the crowd were still standing there singing and cheering.

Date: 2007-09-25 12:13 am (UTC)The best Japanese machine I ever saw was a sort of claw machine, where the prize bin was a pool full of lobsters. You tried to grab a live lobster! Sadly, the link has gone 404. I love the fact that they have machines selling batteries and rice, too.
