Free Books! Woohoo!

*****

Models of Ares are now available.

You can also get a nicely detailed Orion.

Wow, $75 for a plastic stick seems a little steep.

(Is it just me, or does the Ares 1 really lack, I dunno, flair? I guess every rocket can't be as sexy as, say, the Mercury Atlas cokebottles, but still... Aries looks like something an evil kid might come up with after deciding to launch his pet mouse into orbit using bits from Estes model rocket kits.)

It does kind of have that makeshift look, yeah. That's one of the things I find appealing about it, really. You used to see those big topheavy designs in the 60s, when they'd stick a Centaur on top of a Titan, etc. You're launching a custom-designed spaceship on the rocket that you happen to have on-hand. Compared to the Shuttle, though, it's very much a return to sensible design.
