Date: 2008-07-03 11:16 pm (UTC)This led me to wondering whether any head of state had ever competed at the Olympics. I can't think of any; the nearest I can get is Crown Prince Felipe of Spain (sailing, 1992) and before that our own Princess Anne (three-day eventing, 1976). The closest a British politician has got would seem to be former Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell (200m, 1964). Not that a politician could be head of state here, but you know what I mean.
