The guy who played the Ro-Man in "Robot Monster" is apparently the same fellow who played Herbie the Gorilla in "The Beverly Hillbillies". I wonder if it was the same Gorilla suit?

I've always liked "Robot Monster". It's a better film than it generally gets credit for being. What you have to keep in mind while watching it is that the little boy is having a dream after reading a pile of pulp SF comics. The story doesn't necessarily have to make logical sense - it works more on an emotional and symbolic level.

The Ro-Man always worked as a monster for me too. I experience him as a large hominid who's had his head replaced with a robot's head. There's something eerie about all the bubbles as well.

The IOC decided to allow Iraq to be in the Olympics after all, although after it was too late for all but two of their athletes to register. It's better than nothing, though.

Some Canadian dude went berserk on a bus, cut off a guy's head with a knife, then spent time waving the head out the windows at the police. Even by American standards, that's extreme.

IIRC, the Canadians are always kind of reticent about releasing crime information, for whatever reason. I'm guessing he's just a plain lunatic. The Globe and Mail (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20080801.DEATH01/TPStory/National) has a pretty good article about the incident. He seems to have eaten part of the victim too. It's like something from a really overwrought slasher movie.

Heh. "The 5000 Fingers of Dr T" was the first movie I ever recorded on VHS cassette when I got a deck back around 1982 or so.
