World Cup Time!

Woot! Our guys actually tied England in our World Cup opener! Not that they actually earned it, but it counts anyway. I feel badly for the English goalie - he'll never live that down.

It was striking how many English flags, and how few American, were in evidence.

Oddly, both games in Group A so far have tied. What would happen if *all* of the in-group games tied?

I actually watched this; it's the first time I've watched a football match all the way through this year, I think. From what I saw, the US have a terrible defence, and would be torn apart by the likes of Spain - but England have a terrible attack, so you got away with it. =:P

Apparently, the criteria they use, in order, are:

1. greatest number of points in all group matches;
2. goal difference in all group matches;
3. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches;
4. greatest number of points in matches between tied teams;
5. goal difference in matches between tied teams;
6. greatest number of goals scored in matches between tied teams;
7. drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
