Delta are going to offer up to $9950 to get volunteers to give up their seats. That's dirt cheap compared to what's going to happen to United, I'm sure.
Ordinarily I have a certain sort of cynical detachment to this sort of thing, but this really badly pisses me off, mainly because it was United's own lack of planning that caused it. A passenger shouldn't have to bear the burden of the carrier's mistakes.
