We have a fearsome navy that could lay comprehensive waste to most of the world did we so desire. However, our best warship, the one you have to be all kinds of qualified just to serve as a common sailor on the thing, is also the world's oldest active warship, that could probably be beaten in combat by a smallish Somali pirate boat.

Now the proper Conquest of Mars can begin, because our rover has a laser beam, and can disintegrate stuff!

I still think they named it Curiosity because its real mission is to wipe out the feline alien race that Spirit and Opportunity discovered, so we can conquer Mars and terraform it for Earth animals.
